Early Disability Detection

About Us

Early Identification

it’s so important for parents of infants and toddlers to take a big-picture look at their child’s development. The nuances to look for are not something that is typically apparent at one moment but instead a comprehensive look at behaviors, actions and interactions over time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in six Kenyan children has a developmental delay or disability. These range from delayed motor or speech skills (that may resolve over time with brain development and therapy) to autism spectrum disorders to muscular dystrophy.

Child Assessment

Children develop in many ways: speech, walking, balance, effective use of hands, social interactions, independence, etc.

Knowing the early signs of a possible learning disability can help parents get their child the help he or she needs as soon as possible. That's why it is important to pay attention to your child's developmental milestones. Delays such as late walking or talking or trouble with socialization can be signs of a learning disorder in toddlers and preschoolers.

A great example of a local family who has benefited from early detection is Reese Reagan’s. According to her mother, Dominique Reagan, she and her husband began suspecting Reese had Down syndrome at about 3 months old, and after tests confirmed their suspicions were true, they immediately began seeking therapy options for their daughter. Because of this early work on behalf of Reese’s family, she’s now a thriving, bubbly little girl whose developmental disability doesn’t hold her back.

After doing an evaluation to pinpoint where your child is having problems, a team of special educators will create an individualized education program (IEP) for your child that outlines what special services he needs to thrive at school. Special educators will then help your child build on his strengths and teach him ways to compensate for his weaknesses.

Our Services

Early intervention is about recognizing difficulties quickly, identifying and making a prompt intervention to support children and their families so that the issues are tackled before they became ingrained.

Some children, due to conditions noticed at birth, or developmental delays that occur in the early years, risk missing some of the most important learning and developmental milestones.

  • Child Observation that will happen at the child’s current school. Data will be collected and discussed by staff and family.
  • Assessment and Screening services using age appropriate tools to match the child’s needs.
  • After assessing and screening we will sit down with all involved parties and come up with individual goals for each child.
  • We then create an Individual Educational Plan using the data collected thus far, for each child.
  • Some kids will require further testing and specialized services, we will refer them to various specialists.
  • We will continue to monitor the child and keep close contact with the teacher to assure that the child is working towards their goals.
  • Some of the children will require accommodations (adjusting their school curriculum). As a team we work to figure out how to better help the student.

The enrolment process is not based on any official laws governing educational authorities. Rather, a school's policies and a parent's choice are the sole decision-makers in the enrolment process..
